For designers, maintaining color consistency is fundamental. Nearest Color Finder (NCF) is a Figma plugin designed to simplify this process by helping you quickly match a chosen color with the closest one in your existing design system, eliminating the need for manual color comparisons.
Leveraging the CIEDE2000 color difference algorithm, it finds the most visually akin color token within your local styles and variables.
π How to Use Nearest Color Finder?
Option 1: Accessing through the Figma Community
- Open your browser and go to the Figma community website.
- In the search bar, type βNearest Color Finderβ, or click this link to go directly to the plugin page.
- Once on the plugin's page, click on the "Try out" button.
Option 2: Direct Integration from Figma
- Within a design file furnished with color styles and variables, hit "Shift + I" or tap the "Resources" icon in the Figma toolbar.
- Navigate to the Plugins section and search "Nearest Color Finder" in the search bar.
- Initiate the plugin by clicking on the displayed result.
Step 2:
Choosing a Color:
- Once you activate the NCF plugin, you'll notice a search bar.
- Here, you can either:
- Use the built-in Color Picker tool to select a color visually. Itβs a circle that shows a spectrum of colors.
- If you already have a Hex color code (a six-character representation of colors, often starting with '#'), type it into the search bar.

Finding the Match:
- After selecting the color, either hit the 'Enter' key on your keyboard or click on the arrow (β΅ Enter) symbol within the search bar.
- The plugin will swiftly scan your design system's color styles and variables to find the nearest match.
